Haleakala National Park, Maui Winery & Alii Lavender Farm

Haleakala is the world's largest dormant volcano--7.5 miles wide, 2.5 miles long, and 3,000 feet deep. This morning, we rented mountain bikes and brought them to the summit.  Gearing up in full protective pads and helmets, the boys biked down...but not on the roadway. They decided to take the Skyline Trail along the "spine" of the mountain and off-roaded it.  Someone needed to bring them to the summit and bring the car back down (1.5 hours each way), so I happily obliged.  As I descended through clouds and a bit of mist, I hoped they were having fun! And they did.
A little winery and lavender farm were pleasant diversions on the way home. Chris and Jackson actually biked down to the lavender farm, which is where I picked them up.
Tonight, we bid farewell to Maui. We also said goodbye to our beloved gerbil, Stormy.  Chris's mom, Pat, told us the bad news--that she had passed away. RIP to our "poo."
