This Can't Be Our Last Day Here...

I'm having a tough time believing this is our last day in Hawaii. Jackson started off with a surf lesson at Halapaki Beach. It was in a protected area but there were some waves along one side. He surfed like a pro! We finally gave in to his one request, Taco Bell for lunch. We returned to the hotel to shower and pack up our things, then headed to Kilohana Plantation. We enjoyed the train ride through the property and a tasting at Koloa Rum Company on site. After bringing the boys back to the Spouting Horn lava tube for fun, we returned to the plantation to have a delicious last dinner at Gaylord's. On to the airport...sadness is setting in as reality hits us. We've had a wonderful time.  Our plane leaves at 10 p.m. for Los Angeles...4 a.m. in Florida already. We will arrive in Ft. Lauderdale at 6 p.m.
Aloha and Mahalo to Hawaii.  We will be back!

"The sea was angry that day, my friends..."

So, my son told me yesterday's blog was lame because I didn't write anything.  Today's entry may be even lamer because I didn't do much physical activity. I will admit...I am getting used to island life and wonder how in the world I will ever go back to work after this, as much as I love my job.
There is a saying I've encountered throughout my travels over the past three weeks: "Relax bruddah...this ain't the mainland." Chris's idea of vacation sometimes differs from mine.  He continued with the boot camp activities and kayaked down the Wailua River.  Jackson and I are done with the physical exertion for a while.  It has been great fun, but today I left my son to sleep in, and after dropping Chris off at 7:45 am for today's adventure, I went solo and drove to the south shore of Kauai.
There is an area comprised of various historical, sacred, and cultural sites called the Koloa Heritage Trail. As I sipped a Kona coffee and ate a mango muffin, I mapped my route and set the phone in the other cup holder...holding cell phones while driving is against the law in Hawaii.
The Spouting Horn shoots water 6 stories high at times...not while I was taking pictures, of course! The sound as the water rushed in was like a dragon or Darth Vader breathing.
The Kauai Museum exhibits ancient Hawaiian artifacts as well as Kamehameha invasion and sugar plantation history.
We found a great little ice cream place down the street. I got two scoops: thai iced tea and vanilla malt.
We had prime rib, teriyaki steak, and garlic chili chicken for dinner at this hole in the wall.  We've had fish almost every day until today.
We have yet to go swimming or snorkeling in Kauai. Winds are 25 to 30 miles per hour.  Red flags are up on the beaches. No swimming.
As we left the ice cream shop, I noticed the wall mural had an airplane flying away...
It's been an unforgettable trip. We leave for home tomorrow night :(
