On to Anchorage!

We left Seward in a cold pouring rain around 7:45 and headed north. The drive was gorgeous even with the gray cloud cover.

We stopped at the Portage Glacier visitor center (really a Chugach National Forest visitor center, if that matters) and the wind was so strong, I stayed in the car. Nothing had changed from our visit here 16 years ago, except I couldn't see the glacier due to the clouds. The wind was gusting to 45 MPH and really, I was just fine waiting for the boys.
We then headed north and continued a beautiful drive despite the weather. Getting hungry, we found a local pho restaurant (packed at 11 a.m.) Good stuff.
Today's pace was more relaxed. By 12 we found the Anchorage Museum. In 2010, the Smithsonian loaned the museum an entire floor's worth of native artifacts. The collection was outstanding and I loved the accompanying videos and interactive displays. The other floors held modern art either about or created by Alaskans.

Before looking for our B&B, we made one more stop at Alaska Wild Berry, a touristy candy factory and souvenir store!

Susitna Place had a suite overlooking the Gulf of Alaska at Turnagain Arm. We had a great dinner close by at Simon and Seafort's. Dessert was Baked Alaska...a first for Jackson.
